Mp3 makes weird sounds in PPT 2003

Whenever I try and insert MP3 files (which play properly outside of Powerpoint 2003) all I hear is a sharp noise. I created and presented this same ppt file with another computer using Powerpoint 2002 and successfully played it on this computer in the past. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
