.mpd

I am attempting to get metrics from MS Project. The easiest way I have
found is to save the project as a .mpd, then query the database from
excel.

What issues should I be aware of with regards to .mpd files before I
ask the project coordinators to save their .mpp's as .mpd's?

PM's will often want to take copies of their schedule away on laptops.
Mostly there is a question of getting people to update the .mpd version. If
the .mpd is the only copy for a number of projects, it's important to have
daily backups.

Once a month at least I would take a backup copy, then open the .mpd in
Access 2000+ and compact it. To open in Access you need to select All Files
in the File type box.
