MPP File size has become too large!!

I have a microsoft project 2003 MPP.The size of this mpp is nearly 45 MB.I
cannot understand how the size has become this much. The mpp has nearly 1500
tasks with 3 assignments per task on an average and about 50 resources in
resource sheet.I have other project with similar amount of data but there
size is hardly 3 to 4 MB.

The other problem is that I am updating this mpp through COM APIs.I mean for
each task in mpp,I update the task name , task assignment and timescale
values for that task. After updating some 200 odd tasks I notice that the
memory usage in task Manager increases drastically(upto 2 MB) for
winproj.exe. This is causing my application to crash. Can anybody suggest why
there is such a drastic usage in memory and why the mpp size may be so big?I
have checked the mpp and there are no unnecessary blank tasks or resources
in mpp which can cause this increase.

Hi,

This group is meant to be closed so please post in the developer group next
time. Try opening your schedule then immediately saving it again. If this
does not work, try a file, save as. These are the only two actions that
trigger file compression.

I have tried both the approaches but it did not change the size much.It came
to 38 MB from 45 MB.So dont know if MPP is actually that much in size.

With a compacted file, the biggest memory user is saving baselines.

You can try copying all Resources then all Tasks into a new file and see
what happens? Be sure to set Options such as hours per day before copying.
