MS Docs keep opening in TextEdit

Ever since recently re-installing OS 10.3.1 and reloading all my apps, some
of my MS Word docs (some quite old) appear with a dark line around them in
the finder and if I don't open them from within Word they open in TextEdit.
Also sometimes I am saving or resaving documents and though I save them
as MS docs they show up with this dark line around them and I then have
problems opening them. This has never happened before and is a pain.
Anyone out there with any ideas? Could not find anything in Knowlege Base.

Hi Elena,

Select one of the problem docs in the Finder. Control-click on it and
choose Get Info. In the Open With pane, choose Word and click the
Change All button.

By the way, I think OS X is now up to 10.3.5. You need to run Software
Update (or whatever it's called in OS X).
