MS Document Scanning Unable to Intiialize Scanner

G

George K

Built a new machine and moved HDD and had to reload XP and download SP2.
Now when I try to use MS Office Tools/MS Document Scanning, I can proceed to
pressing "SCAN" and then get a message that says "unable to initialize
scanner, check cables...". However if I go to Control Panel/Scanners and
Cameras/Flatbed Scanner and press "SCAN" the scanner functions properly and
the document is sent to the designated folder.
The shortcut and the options I had set for scanning in Office Scanning (B&W,
name by date&time, etc: ) are more desirable than those in Scanner Wizard.
Also Office Doc Scan is quicker.
I repaired Office XP and will now try reloading it to see if any change, but
wonder if registry is blocking access to scanner in Office.
Any suggestions.

Hi George,

There can be a couple of factors. MS Office Document
Imaging uses a database list for scanner information it
knows and that can be an issue at times also, especially
with document feeder scanners, using a TWAIN driver rather
than a WIA driver may work better.

There may also be 3rd party software that interferes
with what Document Imaging/Scanning is trying to do.
