MS Office 12.0.1 Update Rejected

I have Office: Mac 2008 Home & Student Edition (12.0.1) installed with
the application located in the applications folder.

When I select to install MS Office 12.0.1 Update, I am presented with
the following message:

You cannot install Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.0.1 Update on this
volume. A version of the software required to install this update was
not found on this volume.

Is this because I have not purchased the "professional" edition of
Office?

OK... Please note: The web site for the update is exceedingly
confusing!!!

All will be fine if you make sure that you download this file: Office
2008 -1210UpdateEN.dmg

I (and apparently many others) downloaded the 12.0.1Update ---
thinking that it was the update to 12.0.1 (already updated!)

Glad you are sorted, and yep, you weren't the only one. Please send that
feedback to MS by using the little white link at the bottom of the page
that says website feedback.

A lot of confusion was the result of a pooly worded blurb on MacUpdate.
It said 12.1 bur in fact was linked to the old 12.0.1.

-I had to do the work around of having to copy the contents of the update to my desktop being the installer would give me the error " A version of the software required to install this update was not found on this volume"
- but now when i do that i now get "The installer coul not locate the data it needed to install the software. Check your media of internet connection..."
did i miss something?

Hi Lou -

It sounds like your download took a hit - not uncommon for such a large .dmg
- I'd try trashing the first copy & downloading it again.
