MS Office 2003 Trial - removal

L

Lynda Ormandy

I purchased my PC in Jan last year and it came loaded with the Office 2003
trial. I have completed the trial and do not want to purchase the software.
How do I remove this software from my PC bearing in mind that it does not
seem to appear in the Add/Remove Programs list and that I loaded my copy of
Office 97 before I commenced the trial.

The trial version is continually interfering with Office 97 applications.
Your help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,
Lynda

I'm surprised you were able to install O97 as if you wish to run two
versions of Office the earliest should be installed first. Its no wonder you
had problems, and its probable that the whole Office installation is
corrupted.
Office 2003 should be listed in Add/Remove as Microsoft
Office............2003, is it not?

If not I think I would be tempted to backup all data and use the PC recovery
disk to put the sys back to origonal condition, Then uninstall Office2003,
before updateing the sys and then installing O97. As attempting to clean up
the O2003 trisl installation would be difficult.

But perhaps someone knows another way?

I'm with you. When things get that boogered up, sometimes it's less
frustrating to wipe it clean and start from scratch.

Thanks DL and Joann, very helpful, much appreciated.

The only thing to note about your reply was that you seem to think that I
installed the 2003 trial before installing Office 97. In fact, these products
were installed the other way around - Office 97 first and then the trial.
Does this make a difference to your suggested answer? Or is it still best to
uninstall both and start again?

Many thanks,
Lynda

No I understand, the trial was installed by your PC supplier when they set
up the PC.
Therefore you still need to uninstall it *prior* to installing any other
version of Office.
Even if you went and purchased Office2003 you still need to uninstall the
trial prior to installing from cd.

I would still prefer to start from scratch.

Sure, but the restoration cd will maybe install the trial also?

I don't think so but even if it does, uninstall it without starting it up.

Thank you again. I will do as you say and start from scratch. You both
obviously know what you are talking about.

Kind regards,

I've uninstalled that damned trial version from several new computers right
from the start. I've read about too many people who have problems when it
expires and they no longer want to use it.
