ms office 2003 update question

Hi all--

I have MS Office Professional 2003 installed on my computer, and I NEVER
receive any update notifications. I know they are out there, because I
get them at work all the time. Running XP, SP3, with all updates.

How do I get notifications for updates to install. (I have a legitimate
copy of Office). It's not a very safe world out there.

Do you have MSUpdate, which provides Critical updates for MS Software, or
are you still using Windows Update which gives only Win Critical updates?
And then if update is set to auto install you are not going to see any
reminders

I guess I just have Windows Update -- (didn't know your had to have the
other one too, and didn't know it existed). Don't have autoinstall
selected. How do I get MSUpdate?

You may have Microsoft Update { www.update.microsoft.com }. Both Windows
Update and Microsoft Update are called Windows Update on your computer. You
just go to the Microsoft Update site. Years ago, before Vista, Microsoft
offered an update on the old Windows Update site that actually converted
your computer to use Microsoft Update. Try the above link, if it does not
find Microsoft Update on your computer, you will be offered it.

However, there is a second step you need to take after you go to Microsoft
Update. You need to tell it to offer updates for other Microsoft products.
Suggest you open Windows Update on your computer and look for the other
Microsoft products option. {I am using Windows 7, so I cannot go back and
tell you where the option is located.}

Thanks for the help, Don.

My Windows Update did not have any way to do that second step. However,
at the top of the update tool was a link to Microsoft Update. I went to
that link, and there were two Update Tools. The one in the upper right
was the one I have. The one on the left margin is the "one-in-all"
update tool. I clicked on that, and it installed a new Active-X Update
tool.

I ran it and it said I needed a few updates. In fact, it said I needed
28 updates, mostly for MS Office. Sheesh.

Thanks again

Jim
