MS Office 2004 won't print on new Lexmark Printer

A new feature of Office 2004 for Mac. I just installed a Lexmark
W840dn (a top of the line printer) but I can't get a Word document to
print. Entrourage, Excel, Adobe products (Acrobat, InDesign, etc.)
and other common programs work fine, but not Office 2004.

Anyone know what is wrong with Office? I sure need a hand on this one.

Just for clarification - Word is a part of Office 2004, as are Excel,
Entourage, and PowerPoint. Office is a collection of those 4 programs, so
the problem seems to be with printing from Word :) However, just because
that may be the only program you have difficulty printing from doesn't
necessarily mean that *it* is the source of the problem. In fact, Word
doesn't do the printing - it simply calls the OS print instructions which
then work with the printer driver to get the job done.

Although the other apps print OK, did you run Disk Utility - Repair Disk
Permissions after installing the printer software? If not, that's the first
suggestion. Along the same line - even though the printer is brand new -
check the Lexmark web site for an updated version of the driver. What came
with your printer _may_ have been current when the unit was packed, but that
could have been *months* ago.

Also, make sure OS X as well as Office are fully updated (again Repairing
permissions is something that should be done after any updates or installs).

If all the above is in order you'll most likely find the problem to be
resolved. However, if you continue to have a problem we'll still need more
information to help resolve the issue:

When you go into File> Print, is the printer listed? Have you checked all
the settings?

What *does* happen when you try to print from Word? We need specifics.

Is this with a particular document or does the same thing happen if you just
type something into a new blank doc & try to print?

I have done all the things you suggest. I am using the drivers
downloaded directly from Lexmark for the printer (not the ones on the
CD). Through experimentation I discovered the following. All Officer
2004 programs (Word, Excel, Entrouage, etc.) will not print to the
Lexmark printer with Adobe Warnock Pro fonts. They will work with
Times fonts. I ran both fonts on each program and it was the Adobe
font that would not print. I have no problem printing with Warnock
Pro fonts in CS2 programs (InDesign, etc.) The problem is only with
Adobe fonts in MS Office 2004. What can be done to make Office use
the full font collection of the computer?

Ah. See if your printer has been set not to permit fonts to be
downloaded. I wouldn't trust Adobe not to over-ride that setting if it
were present. What happens if you print a file containing Warnock Pro
from TextEdit say?

What happens if you print to PDF and then print that to the printer
with Preview.app?

What happens after cleaning out all your font caches with Font Finagler
or similar shareware?

Lately, Word and some other Carbon programs e.g. GraphicConverter are
refusing to admit that I have Warnock Pro at all, even on screen, so I
won't rule out something screwy with Word or the system just yet.
It ain't just Warnock Pro, as previously it saw it but couldn't see
Minion, even though I never had problems with other Adobe fonts like
Garamond Premier Pro.

So, you can see I have a personal interest in your problem. Do post
back with the results from those suggested experiments above, and
anything else useful you find out.
