MS Office Not Responding

J

Jim

2007 MS Office Small Business. MS Vista.
MS Technicians cleaned system on second try in June. Now the problem has
returned.
McAfee Security has run continually. No virus.
I have used Office for a number of years and never had problems with earlier
versions or XP.
Why doesn't Office Diagnostics pick up the problem and fix it?

I would take a long look at the McAfee Security suite. It has been known to cause issues. If you disable (uninstall) it does this issue still continue

Is it outlook that is not responding or the entire office suite? if outlook,
does it stop responding after do something specific?

I am afraid to try the internet without some anti-virus program in place. Is
there a way to do your test without having to be concerned about getting a
virus in the process? Jim

J

Jim

Outlook is the only place I have noticed it this time. Two months ago it also
affected Internet Explorer. My use of other Office programs is very limited
but I haven't had any problems with the few letters written with Word.

I didn't answer all of your question. Outlook opens OK, but when using the
mouse to select different items in the Email Inbox I usually receive the
message "Not Responding".
I read somewhere that one possible solution was to establish a new mail
account. I set up Outlook2 and as of right now it is not hanging up. My
problem with it, though, is getting my Contacts and Address Books copied to
Outlook2. I can't find a way to copy the contacts from Outlook to Outlook2
when they are both on the same computer.

Ok - if outlook2 is working, go to File, open, outlook data file. Add your
old pst (probably called outlook.pst) and you can either drag the items from
the folders to the new pst or close outlook and change the default delivery
location to the old pst. (control panel, mail, profiles)

If you don't have a lot of stuff to move, I would just move it - you can
keep the old one open in your profile as an archive - just go into contacts
(and calendar) - apply the By Category view then select all and drag or use
Edit, Move to folder command to move the items you need in the new pst.

Thank you. It may be next weekend or more before I can try this. I will be
sure to post my success or failure at that time.

I promised to give a final report and it is good. What you helped me with
gave me a temporary solution. Today, MS Office again took control of my

The basic problem was that Plaxo was conflicting with Outlook. Since I
