MS Office Word 2007 will not start

After installing MS Office 2007 on Dell Vostro Windows 7 32-bit laptop Word
will not start. When you attempt to open the program you receive a message
stating Word has stopped working and tries to gather more information about
the error. No additional information is found and the only option is to
close the program. When trying to reopen Word you receive a message stating
Word failed to open correctly last time and asks if you want to open is Safe
Mode. when trying to open in Safe Mode you receive the Word has stopped
working message and your only option is to closed the program

The other Office 2007 applications work although you cannot print from
Outlook. I have tried renaming/deleting the template file and editing the
data registry value as suggested on the support page and some of the threads
listed but nothing has worked. I have uninstalled and installed the suite a
couple of times. The Office Diagnostic application doesn't find anything
either. I tried the Fix It from Microsoft and it said it didn't support the
verison I was running.

Hopefully someone has some ideas as I am at a loss of what to try next.

Doug,

I did try renaming the data and option registry keys as well and the
template .dot files. None of these actions helped. Is there something else
I can try?

Terry,

I did read about the printer drivers and the default printer drivers were on
the pc not on the server as described in the article. However I decided to
see if updating the drivers would help. I unselected the printer as the
default printer and updated the drivers. Before reselecting the printer as
the default I tried to open Word and it worked. Then I reselected the
printer as the default printer and again attempted to open Word and it
worked. I then opened Outlook and successfully printed email messages.
Everything appears to working now.

Thanks for your help.

Excellent.

Explanation is that Word MUST see a locally installed, compatible printer
driver to work.
