Office language packs did not exist prior to Office 2007. There was a
multi-language system for XP, but it was only for corporate accounts and I
do not know if it provided a language interface for Office applications. I
would tend to think not, but I don't know first hand. Please feel free to
correct me if wrong.
I personally have Office 2003 with Office 2003 Proofing Tools, and I can
attest that although I can spell check text in 54 languages the menus and
dialogs are English only. On the other hand I have Office 2007 on another
computer with the German Language Pack and I can switch between English and
German interfaces at will. Nifty. I am using it with XP, and I believe
that it works with XP 64 bit too.
Unless you are literate in Japanese, this seems like a bad buy for you.
