MS Outlook 2003 is showing ‘one unread item’

In Windows 2000 Pro, MS Outlook 2003 is showing ‘one unread item’ even though
there isn't one. (Ran search for unread items and did not find any.)

Is it your own mailbox or is this a second mailbox you access by using
Exchange? In case of the second make sure you have permissions to read
private items.

No, this email account is only set up for the Microsoft Exchange Server
default account. I even did a search on the folder for unread items and it
comes back with nothing.

Then the counter might have gone nuts then. You can give it another try by
resetting your view or loking at your mailbox with OWA. Otherwise rightclick
your folder and choose Mark All As Read to reset the counter.

Our exchange server is not currently set up for Web Access and I already
tried the rightclick and mark all as read and it does not help. Is there a
utility that I can use to reset this?

Thanks for your assistance thus far though.
