MS Project 2002 Deadline causing conflict

Chris

I can duplicate my problem by performing this simple
scenario.

Two embedded subprojects projects, inserted into an empty
master, one subproject with 1 task and the other with 2.
All start As Soon As Possible. Nothing fancy, just what
the default template provides.

The only task of the first subproject is the predecessor
of the first task ot the second. The first task of the
second is the predecessor of the second task. This second
task has a deadline.

Whenever the deadline is exceeded , rather than getting
the expected Red symbol I am getting a Conflict pop up
window.

Any suggestions?

Remove the deadline? If you are past your deadline that is a problem is it
not?
You might also have set some constraint in there by accident.

The Deadline feature isnt supposed to cause a conflict,
rather, it should just pop up the red icon indicating the
deadline is exceeded.

The behaviour I reported wont happen if the first
subproject is substituded by information directly in the
master. In other words, it only occurs when the
predecessor is also an inserted subproject.

Unfortunately I do need to have both inserted, and
therefore my cry for help.

I seems to be a bug, but I can find any reference to it
anywhwere.

Suggestions are welcome

I was under the impression that is exactly what I did. I
am wrong?

In my master schedule I have a link between two embedded
projects.

If you duplicate my situation you can probably see
exactly what I am trying to explain.

Please let me know.

thanks

Do you have your link between the top level task (ie: the project summary
task) or do you have it between one of the tasks within the project?
If it is the former, I'd expand the project and link to the last task in
that project.
If this is a bug, then perhaps a workaround would be to have a milestone
task after the task and then link off of that one. It will not have a
deadline so it is unlikely to cause the same problem, yet since it has zero
duration it won't affect your schedule.
