I'm flattening and rebuilding a WIN 98 SE laptop and now attempting to get
MS Project 98 in order. Since it's been quite awhile since I did this, I
wasn't sure of the sequence. Someone told m I should be able to take the
upgrade disc I have and simply install from that. When I attempted, I got
the message the install program had to verify prior ownership. It didn't
find what it needed on the hard drive so I removed the upgrade disc and
inserted the original OEM disc. Conflict with the volume number I believe
the message read. So I backed out of what the upgrade started, shut down,
restarted and installed successfully from the OEM disc that came with the
machine. Then I inserted the upgrade. To my surprise, it didn't auto
install. A window poped up displaying the contents which included a 21 KB
autorun and 80KB setup file. I expected the disc to popup a window with
instructions but it's just showing me the directory. I don't remember this
type of sequence when I got the machine but then... that's been awhile.
Should I just click on that autorun file in the directory or is the failure
of the program to run automatically a symptom of an issue?
