MS Project Server 2003 Add-In in Outlook 2003 causes security warning

Tito Harris

Hi there,

Apps involved:
MS Project Server 2003 English
Outlook 2003 Sp1 English

We have the following problem:
When the MS Project Add-In is active in Outlook 2003 and Outlook starts a
security warning is shown...
*****
Warning: Opening "Untitled"
The form for this item has not been registered in this folder or in your
company's forms library. Because this item contains macros, which could
contain a virus harmful to your computer, you may not want to run the
macros.

If you are sure this item is from a trusted source, click 'Enable macros'.
Otherwise, click 'Disable macros'.

Disable Macros Enable Macros
****

If the Microsoft Project Add-In is not loaded, no security warning.

Here some of my thoughts:
- Loading the Add-In in Outlook triggers/causes the security warning but
might not be the direct cause of it.

- The security warning talks about a form "Untitled" that has macros, this
seems to be the direct cause, but we don't seem to be able to identify which
form it actually is...and why this might be needed by the Add-In

- Also regardless of whether we 'Disable Macros' or 'Enable Macros' the
Add-In seems to work fine. The only thing we should not do is to hit the
escape key or we get the error that the Add-In was not properly loaded and
needs to be loaded again to work properly.

Question:
- How do we not get this security warning and what is the real cause of the
warning?

Your help is much appreciated.

Best regards from Switzerland,

Tito

Hi Tito,

Couple of things...

Is this problem isolated to one client or on all clients?
Is the Project Server URL added to your list of Trusted URLs on the
client?

Also you may want to check the macro security settings in Outlook
Tools --> Macros --> Security
Security Level tab
Select High
Trusted Publishers tab
Select Trust all installed add-ins and templates checkbox

Let us know what happens

Hi Rolly,

Here the answers to your questions:

- Is this problem isolated to one client or on all clients?
Yes, the problem is on all clients that the addin is installed.

- Is the Project Server URL added to your list of Trusted URLs on the
client?
Yes it is.

- Also you may want to check the macro security settings in Outlook
Tools --> Macros --> Security
- Security Level tab / Select High / Trusted Publishers tab / Select Trust
all installed add-ins and templates checkbox
Macro security is set to 'medium' due to company policy (but error occurs on
all security settings: high, medium, low). Check-box checked to trust all
installed add-ins and templates.

Please let me know if I can provide other relevant information...Thanks a
lot for your help...

Hi Tito,

Have you tried uninstalling the Outlook add-in and then reinstall it
again?

I'm running out of options for you...

Hi Rolly,
Have you tried uninstalling the Outlook add-in and then reinstall it
again?
Yes, we tried several times to re-install the add-in, no luck.
I'm running out of options for you...
OK, where should we look for a solution to our problem?
Should we contant MS directly or are there other options open?

tito
