MS PS 2003, Check in and no source dialogue box

Paul Bower

When perforing a check in, I was expecting a dialogue box requesting a soure
file to "check in" but received none. Is the only way to update checked out
documents is via on-line? Is there no provisions for a laptop to
1. check out a document, risk, issue, project, etc.
2. work off line
3. submit the new file via check in back at the office?

Am I missing something as I have worked with other document repository
systems? Some of them integrated with XP's file system!

Paul:

Users of Project can take Projects offline, users of Project Web Access can
take their timesheets and status reports offline. That is the entire
off-line capability currently supported. Taking projects offline is not the
same as check-in and check-out in Project Server. The save offline function
is reached from the File menu in Project.

Thanks for the response. However, what is the purpose of the "check-in"
fuction; just to remove the file read-only lock?

Paul:

Check in and Check out are handled automatically when someone opens and
closes a project plan. When a plan is off-line, it is also checked out.

Off-line = The project was saved using the off-line feature and is,
therefore, also checked-out; the active copy of the project may or may not
be on the premises

Checked out = Open and actively being edited or left in a checked-out state
by a disorderly shutdown event.

I was not specific enough in my question. Documents associated with specific
projects (MS Sharepoint Services); what is the purpose of the "check-in"
fuction?
