MS Publisher 2.0a / AMD processor glitch?

I've been trying to install MS Publisher 2.0a (the 5 diskette set) on a
brand new HP Pavillion laptop running Windows XP on an AMD processor. I
have FP2003 but also need 2.0a. (long story- don't ask). I've tried all
the install options- complete and custom, and have tried installing it
to different locations but no-go. Note: I have installed 2.0a with no
problem on my desktop with an Intel P4 processor running XP so I know
2.0a is compatible with the XP operating system.

The problem with the laptop install seems to be related to the AMD
processor. After disk 5 and the install progress indicates 100%, a
message pops up saying mspub.tst failed. When I look at the details of
the failure message, it's all very technical and points to the AMD
processor.

If I try to start Publisher 2.0a on the laptop, it will briefly flash on
the screen and disappear. In other words it won't 'stay open'. It looks
like all the files installed properly but whatever this mspub test is,
it's screwing up the program.

Any thoughts on how I can install 2.0a on my laptop?!

*IF* the indicators point to an incompatibily with the AMD processor and you
have said processor in your laptop, you may not have a way around the
problem.

JD the only way you may possible overcome this issue is to select the
Compatibility Mode in XP.

If that does not work, you are hosed.

Publisher 2.0a was a great version of Publisher and to date one of the three
worthwhile versions which were
Publisher 2.0a, Publisher 97 and Publisher 2003.
