MS Publisher 2003 website HTTP publishing

S

stuart

I have a website in ms publisher 2003. It went very well. Howver to
avoid spam we were going to update it to include a response form
rather than email addresses. I saw the problem in respect of Front
page & server extensions etc. and our host has assured me that all is
ok.
My problem is simply that I don't know how to publish it through http
- the FTP site works fine, but when I try to add the url for my
website to my network places, it cannot get through to the site. I can
log on and see the directory, but it uses a front end called Plesk for
file management.
Anyone any ideas as to how I can upload, either avoiding the plesk
system or saving the publisher file into the plesk system in a way it
can be recognised?
Thanks in advance
Stu.

Thought I had it sorted, but alas no!
Here's the tale -
I saved 2 copies of the website to my hard-drive , one with the form
on, one without. I FTP'd the one without a few days ago and it was
fine. My webhost got back to me today with the logins for Plesk etc.,
so I struggled to get the new version live via HTTP. I deleted the
index file off using Plesk, then uploaded the newest version of the
website. That failed and all images etc. were lost. So I went back to
FTP, and mistakenly put the version on with the form (but no-one has
used it as far as I know). I changed it back shortly afterwards using
FTP. I then got the right HTTP information and loaded the newest
version, but the form doesn't work. I have checked that FrontPage is
there using the _vti_inf.html and asked the webhost if he could re-
install in case it is corrupt, to which they replied :
"I'm not sure what you mean by re-install? Our front page support is a
server-wide setting, it's either enabled or disabled on a per account
basis.I've checked the front page component version and it is
5.0.2.2634"

So does that mean it can't be corrupt?

Either way the forms not working and I can't get back to the Msmvps
website to look at troubleshooting. Any ideas?

Thanks again from struggling construction worker trying to design a
quick website!

Whenever you FTP (rather than publish with http:// method) you will almost
always corrupt the FPSE, especially if you want to use forms. You shouldn't
use Plesk or other control panels either because FPSE can't track changes to
your web that way.

Your host should know how to run a health check on the FPSE but sounds like
they don't know fp extensions very well, so your only choice would be to
uninstall fpse's then reinstall them. However, when you do that you stand
the chance of messing something up (like navigation) - at least it's that
way with fp...so it may be that way as well with Publisher webs too. You
should be able to do this yourself through Plesk, unless the host has the
option disabled.

NB - your ftp un/pw is not necessarily the same as your http:// un/pw.

Your host should have provided you with the publishing address for http
publishing...you shouldn't be hitting Plesk at all.

one more thing...your host must allow the fp form handler to work (it must
be enabled by them) - some hosts, even though you may have fpse installed
and working, don't allow the form handler.

Sorry for sounding thick - I am at the edge of my ability here! Is it
on my machine that the FrontPage is likely to be corrupt and need
reinstalling? - if so are they with MS Office or Windows XP?

My webhost says I am the only one using FPSE - assuming theirs hasn't
been corrupted by me.

If it is just mine, do I have to recreate the website locally and then
HTTP, or just reload, or just delete and re-create the form?

Thanks again - I owe you all a beer!

Those links I gave you aren't working right now. Apparently the server is
down.

Did you get things sorted out? I read through the rest of the thread with
Rob, and couldn't tell the outcome.

If you still need help, post back.
