MS Windows (TM) Messaging Subsystem Spooler has encountered a prob

Within the past two days, I downloaded the latest MSupdates and now my
computer logs this error message whenever I start Outlook 97. Outlook
freezes and will not even shut down. Does anyone have a fix?

Gateway XP
DSL connection
Internet Explorer still works
No emails can be retrieved or sent by our DSL connection.
