Check that you have the latest printer and graphics drivers installed. Clean
up your hard disk by search and deleting all temp files. Empty your Recycle
Bin and then run a boot time Scandisk and follow up with a with a Defrag.

If the computer still crashes, then try one of the computer diagnostic
utilities tests out all the hardware.

Did David find a solution? Here is my similar story that
seems to eliminate a lot of issues about hardware, etc.
The following was a message I just sent to Tech Support
for MathType (a Word addon program I use to write
technical documents.) I use Norton System Works to fix
errors in Windows and elsewhere, plus I defrag, regularly.

Anyone else out there frustrated that after paying so
much for Microsoft products, when they don't work we have
to pay (not cheap) additional money to get help?

6 months ago, I had Word 97 + MathType and Win 98. I had
a lot of crashes where my files would be lost (even if I
had been saving them all along.) Lost a whole day's work
the first time (then started saving to CD regularly.)

The only way I could fix it was going to a new Dell
computer, Word 2000 and Win XP. No problems - for 6
months. Now they are back again. At least now, when the
crash occurs, the file is not lost (the copy as of the
last save is still on the HD.) In the last 24 hours
crashes have gotten very frequent. I downloaded
Microsoft's latest update to Office 2000. No help.

Since other people don't seem to have this problem, and I
am the only Word + MathType user I know of, I wonder if
it is related to MathType.

End message to MathType.

After reading David's message, Idon't think it is
connected to MT.

Any help would be appreciated.

Terry,

I have all ready done all that.
And since the problem still persists ... I am now going to
wipe the hard drive clean and start over.
I have been troubleshooting this issue for over a week and
a half and that is just way too much time for a particular
issue.

Thank you for all your help. Maybe Microsoft will
eventually come out with software that doesn't crash so
often.
