MS Word 2000 won't start

If I double click on Word 2000 icon, I would get an error
message saying "Microsoft Word for Windows has
encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry
for the inconvenience"
The error report says the following: "Error Signature
AppName:winword.exe
AppVer:9.0.0.3822
ModName: winword.exe
ModVer:9.0.0.3822
Offset: 00395c27"

I have uninstalled Office 2000 and reinstalled it and I'm
still having the same problem. Since this software came
preinstalled on my Dell laptop, I can not even get
support from MicroSoft. They want me to contact Dell
directly since it is an OEM product. If I ask Dell,
they'll say they did not make this software, I have to
contact the software manufacturer. This is absolutely
crazy!

Can anyone here help me please?
