MS Word 2002 "Locks Up" When Saving

R

Ron Marraccini

Folks,

If I open a document in MS Word 2002 sp3- or create a new one - Word will
freeze up when I try to "save as" to a different folder. It also does this
in safe mode. Word will let me do a regular "save" to a document already
created and I can even add or take out text w/ no problem. It's just the
"Save As" function that is freezing up the application.

I have replaced all instances of Normal.dot, invoked the Detect & Repair
option, checked for virii & spyware w/ Trend Micro House Call, V-Com
SystemSuite 6.0, Ad-Aware, CounterSpy, and SpyBot. ( All programs have
up-to-date signatures)

Is it possible that today's new MS security updates "may" have something to
do with this? I suppose I could do a restore point fix or - re-install the
software but I was hoping it's just a Word issue.

The rest of my system runs fine.

Suggestions anyone?

Thank you

I also deleted the "data" folder in the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0 key\ and the problem still
remains after it rebuilt itself.

Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop,
left-click on Disconnect Network Drive, and disconnect any mapped
drives that are not currently available.

Ron I am experiencing the same problem and can also not insert pictures into
word documents. This does not help but perhaps someone at MS will do some
more research before too much longer.

If Word has started hanging on File>SaveAs and File>Open in the last couple
of days, this is because of a problem with a recently released Hotfix.

You can remove it from Add/Remove Programs, where it shows as "Security
Update for Windows XP (KB908531)". Make sure the "show updates" box at the
top is ticked or you won't see hotfixes in the list.

This Hotfix doesn't cause this problems on all PCs so don't uninstall if you
aren't having this problem, as it fixes a vulnerability in Explorer.
