MS Word 2003 images are not visable.

I have Office 2003 Professional and new PC. I had the same software on a
laptop PC, but I'm experiencing problems with picture files. I've tried GIF,
JPG, BMP all with the same effect. I use the insert command and can see them
at first. I scroll away from the page or close and reopen the document and
the pages look completely blank. Sometimes if I wait long enough the image
appears. Most often the only way I can make them visible even for just a few
seconds, is to adjust the size. As soon as I leave the page and come back to
it, the image is again invisible. This is very frustrating. I have checked
settings in the tools. The mystifying thing is that I can make the image
appear and stay visible - but just can't scroll past it and come back. As a
tech writer, you can imagine how critical it is to be able to see the images
all the time.

Try reducing the hardware acceleration setting in Start | Control Panel |
Display | Advanced. The fastest setting is the default, but isn't always the
best.
