MS Word 97 running XP Pro

Hello, I've experienced a weird quirk recently when I
made no changes to my system...for some reason, I now
have problems closing word...whether I close the document
first and then word or do them both at the same time,
wrod takes well over 1 minute to close...often, I have do
ctrl, alt, dlt and then close word that way.

I tried uninstalling word and then re-installing it...I
even removed the entries in the registry. That didn't
help. I've also looked through the MS KB, but haven't
found anything that seemed to fit. Any thoughts would be
much appreciated.

Hi, David F. See if performing the file maintenance suggested in
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/LockedFiles.htm helps. Another
idea to try is to close Word, rename the normal.dot file, then start
Word again to make Word create a new normal.dot file... if this fixes
the closing problem, you can copy your customizations from the old
normal.dot to the new normal.dot... if not, close Word, delete the new
normal.dot, and rename your old normal.dot back to normal.dot, and you
will have lost nothing.
