MS word 97

i recently bought a computer with windows XP. i installed
my old microsoft 97 software. on microsoft word, everytime
i try to format a document ( e.g. make letters BOLD), i
get an eror message saying that "this document contains
formatting that cannot be saved in the text format". any
suggestions?

It would appear that you are trying to save as a .txt file. On the Save tab
of Tools | Options, make sure that the default save format is "Word Document
(*.doc)."
