My question is:

When i am using word to create html web pages i save the document as
text-only with the .html extension which works fine until i close
word. when i open the file again in word it opens it as if it was
saved as a web page in word. how do i get around this?

thanks.

I understand that i can view my source code from the browser, but i
was wondering if it is possible to prevent word from changing my
text-only files to webpage files when i quit word?

If I understand your problem, you have been using Word to create web
pages, but you would also like to save the plain text.

What might be happening is that the save that happens as you close is
remembering you wanted web formatting. Finish off your web page saves
then before closing, do a save-as, then in the format: selector box
near the top of the panel that opens choose either 'plain text' or
'plain text with line breaks'.
