After OPENing a doc in WORD, after clicking into it, the next thing that
happens is the title bar and window outline start blinking ON and OFF,
nothing for me to do but CTRL-ALT-Delete. What?

This is usually caused by the Office Plug-in in Norton AntiVirus. See
"Title Bars Flash, Word Becomes Unresponsive, or Word Cannot Close" at
