MS Word crashes while running ...

David

MS Word crashes continously no matter what document or
user is logged in.
Have done all the suggested fixes from Microsoft and still
same problem.
I have uninstalled MS Word and deleted all entries from
the registry. After doing so reinstalled MS Word and
still same problem.

I am stumped and would like to know a fix for this. I do
not want to have to format the hard drive all because of
MS Word.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

'Which version? Which fixes? Hard to know where to begin with assistance
without the basics.

David, I am having the same problem. The hourglass keeps popping up every 4-5 seconds and then error msg appears and probram shuts down. It does this in my MS Office Prof 2000 --Word only.

Sure hope someone can help ASAP.

Would reformatting disk help? Sure don't want to do that.

Hope to hear soon.

The error message would be helpful. :)

Also, what patches do you have installed? Take a look under Help/About
for patch level and full version number.

Version: MS Word 2000
Fixes: registry fix, opening winword with "/a" switch,
deleting global normal.dot, deleting word.pip

Have also run MS Word under safe mode and it freezes as
well. I have tried various other documents and they all
freeze. MS Word freezes when opened with "/a" switch.

Do you need anymore information as to what I have done so
far??

Thank you for all your help in advance.

Beth,

My problem is that Word 2000 freezes no matter what
document is open or what user is logged in. I installed
Office SP3 and thought that would rid me of the problem
but the problem still persists.
I have open MS Word in safe mode, with "/a" switch and
still same problem. I have uninstalled and removed any
instances of Word from the registery and then reinstalled
and still same problem.
I don't know what else to do. All other applications work
fine.

What do you suggest?

Thank you
~ David

The hour glass regularly popping up is usually because you have speech
recognition active.

Have you tried the troubleshooting tips in

Terry,

I have tried all of the tips but one. I will try
disabling the plugin for NAV. If it works or does not
work I will post a new message on here letting you know.

Thank you,
David

David

Terry,

That did not fix it.
The problem is not with opening Word. Word is all ready
open with a document(does not matter what document is
opened). While editing or just viewing the document and
hitting the PageUp/Down key, Word will freeze. Only a
hard reboot will bring the system back.

My problem is not even listed on that FAQ page.

Do you have any other suggestions??

If not, then I will just reformat the hard drive and
reinstall the OS.

Thank you for all your help.

Sincerely,
David

before trying anything quite so drastic as a complete reinstall (though
sometimes it is the only way), try making sure that you Graphics and Printer
drivers are the latest available, make sure that you hard drive is free of
abandoned temp files and then run a full bootup scandisk and following up
with a defrag.
Make sure that you have no add-ins of custom macros too (try Word starting
with the /a switch to prove you are free from add-ins or macros)
