Whenever I open word, I get the error message, "MS Word
for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to
close." It then asks me if I want to send an error report
and the program closes. I tried rebooting several times
and have uninstalled and reinstalled the program. Any
suggestions??

I am having this same problem. I have tried the suggestions in the link that was provided. I was able to open word with winword.exe /a but I have not been able to do anything about renaming the Normal.dot file... because I can't find it ANYWHERE. What can I do

If anyone knows, please let me know!

If you're using Windows XP, Normal.dot is in a hidden folder. You have to
set the Windows Folder Options to view hidden files and folders.
