MS Word Formatting Style "Apple-Style-Span" - What it is?

Word 2003 - Can anyone shed light on where a formatting type called
"apple-style-span" would appear from in the middle of an MS Word
document that contains only "Normal" formatting? It has appeared in a
report section that has indented paragraphs, and none of us have ever
seen this before and have no idea where it came from. Don't even know
what "apple-style-span" means! Have Googled some and it keeps
referring to HTML, but no idea how that could get into an MS Word
document.

Thanks for any help.

Note that if you pasted information from a web page a character style may have been created in Word.

Thank you, Stefan.

We can't figure out how that might have happened because this is a
portion of a longer report which is all typed together. It's a real
mystery how this "appeared" in the middle.

Well, if it is a character style applied on top of the underlying paragraph
style, you can get rid of it by selecting the text and pressing
Ctrl+SpaceBar.
