MS Word "Insert Date"

I use MS Word 2002. I made a form which I frequently use,
this form has an automatic "insert date" field.

After saving the document, all is well.
If I open the *.doc at a later date, the date changes to
the current date.

How can I insert the date, like I currently do, and not
have the form "update" each time I use MS Word?

In Word 2003. Insert, Date and Time. At the bottom of the insert window,
there is a box to update automatically. If I recall correctly, Word 2002
was the same.

Press Alt+F9 to toggle field codes. Change DATE in the date field code to
CREATEDATE. Alt+F9 to toggle back, F9 to update.
