MS Word is not recognizing my disc, it won't allow me to open it

Hi guys,
We got Internet at home a while ago, but I can't use my MS Word. I go in
and try to open my disc, and get a message asking to make sure that a disc
has been inserted into the drive, when I know there's one there. Even when I
go into My Computer, I get the same result. How do I fix this? Thanks for any
advice you can offer.

And again I ask, what disk? (Most new computers no longer have floppy
drives. I have an older computer with a floppy drive but rarely ever use it
these days.)

Maybe I'm not asking the question correctly so let's try this again. Are you
saying that you have some .doc files stored on a floppy and you are trying
to access those files within Word? If so - don't. That's just asking for
file corruption. Those files should be copied to your hard drive (using
Windows Explorer) and then you can open the files from there. The same
warning goes for saving files from Word to a floppy - don't.

If that's not what's on that floppy, can you explain a bit better?

Bonnie here...
I've never used a computer without a floopy drive. I've always stored my
files on floppies. I've had to use public computers, so I had to store my
stuff on something. The computer that we had at home didn't have MS Word on
it, I had to store everything on floppy discs. We only just got the web at
home just before Christmas. Now that I'm spending more time at home, I'd like
to do my writing at home too.
Maybe I'm not asking the question correctly so let's try this again. Are you

Yes, I have all my files on disc, and it's never been a problem. I've
never had a hard drive to store them on as we couldn't afford the Internet
until late last year. Anytime I do any writing in MS Word, I store that
writing on my disc.

Those files should be copied to your hard drive (using
Windows Explorer) and then you can open the files from there. The same

That's fine, but how am I supposed to do that if I can't even get into my
disc to begin with? I know how to save files to the hard drive, that's not
the problem. The problem is I can't get into the disc to open my files in the
first place. If you can't help me, then I'm just going to go to the college
and do it there. Thanks anyway.

Have you tried accessing the disk from Windows Explorer? If you can't then
you've corrupted the disk by opening and closing files on it from Word. In
that case you should give the disk to someone who's experienced and see if
they can rescue the files.

I hope you had a backup.
