MS Word Office 2008 for Mac crashing randomly

Every time I open a document on Microsoft Word for Mac 2008, it crashes. I've
had this computer for over a month and the problem just started recently. I'm
running Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

I was instructed to go to the "Preferences" folder and delete
com.Microsoft.Word.plist. When I delete that file, MS Word starts working
again for about a couple minutes and then goes back to not working again. How
can I fix this? I need to be able to use MS Word for taking notes in college.

Should I reinstall it? Should I just switch to iWorks or something? I need
help.

I suggest posting this in the Mac Word newsgroup as that sounds a specific
Mac related problem. microsoft.public.word.macword...

I bought a Toshiba on Sept. 30. Microsoft Word worked for maybe 2 days and
then it would randomly crash...every time it did it would always open me back
into exactly what I was doing when it crashed. I made sure I had it set to
auto save every minute and then sat down at 930 pm to start a paper for
HIS103 that was due at midnight, was on the closing sentence of a 1000 word
paper and boom...microsoft crashed! Only this time it does not bring back
what I was working on. The computer seemed to lose almost two hours. It
brought back the first paragraph and that was it. I have tried everything to
find the file and I can't. Anybody know of a way to do a file restore,
recover, anything? They don't seem to work for me when I try them. I have
tried everything it seems like. Thank you.
