MS Word version

A

Art Grant

I am using windows 98 and I have MSoffice 4.2 which
includes Word 6.0c. When I get documents from others,
they are not formatted properly. Most of the information
is just a bunch of symbols and I can't read the document.
I think I need to upgrade my Word product. I tried to
load Word 2000 and it would not take on my system. What
version of Word can I upgrade to be able to read documents
sent to me in higher versions? Also, where can I obtain
the vesion of Word that is then suggested?

Hi Art,

Word 2003 is the only version that is not compatible with Windows 98.

However prior to obtaining a newer version of Word you might try the
Word 97 - Word 2000 import converter for Word 6:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;162214

The file format for Word 2002 and Word 2003 is the same as Word 97 so
it should work for documents created in those versions as well.
