MS Works Reading MS Word Forms

I have created a form (protected with drop down lists and
formulas) in MS Word and distributed it to several people
to complete and return to me. One user has MS Works
rather than Word and he sees "jibberish" in some parts of
the form. Since I had never encountered a user with only
Works trying to read a form, I assume this is the cause of
his problem. Does anyone know for sure?

I believe Works can open some very old (v. 6.0) Word docs, but in general
Works cannot, I think, handle Word docs.

I thought Works could handle any basic .doc files. I
thought the issue was more with the form fields (list
boxes, calculations, etc.). You think Works can't handle
most MS Word documents?
