Msgs stay in Outbook after send/receive

I cannot get msgs to leave Outbox. I click send/receive and there is no
error msg and the process terminates, yet none of the outbox messages are
sent. The receive function works and I get thru on Internet explorer so I
seem to have connectivity. Any thoughts?? Thanks
