msocache, where does it belong?

G

Geri

Some time ago I did some house cleaning of my main hard drive. I do
this by moving old or unknown files to an external hard drive for a
period of time before deleting them. Usually I make note where these
files come from, however, when I moved the msocache group of files I
failed to note their location. Now I want to move them back to their
original spot but I don’t know where that is.

Thanks, Geri

Hi Geri,

It depends on which version of Office you have. In Office 2003 the default location was the drive with the largest amount of free
space when you installed. In Office 2007 it's the drive that Office 2007 is installed to.

You can usually have Office recreate the MSOCache by running setup/Repair from the original CD or disk drive location.

I'm running Office 2003, SP2

Tried that, didn't work.

Hi Geri,

You may want to use the LIStool to disable/remove the existing reference then repair reinstall Office 2003 if the first procedures
don't work for you. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825933/en-us?FR=1
The LISTool is available from the links under the 'Move LIS cache' section at the bottom of that article.

For Office 2003 you don't need to keep the \MSOCache if you'll always have your Office CD available. For Office 2007 it's a
required folder.
