MSP pro 03 + Workgroup Add-in VS MSP server/sharepoint

It might be a newbie question, sorry for that.

In our office (5 administrators managing researchers R&D project in a
university), we are using MSP03 + Workgroup add-in to update task in
outlook. It works well and we are going into a PMO implementation.

But now, I want to plan ahead. Why would I go into MSP server, apart from
the fact that MS is not supporting Workgroup from now on ? What real useful
features can we use that is not already present with the workgroup approach
? Words from some professors here says that Sharepoint is a real mess and
crash often.

I don't want marketing MS view. Real experience please.

Thanks

We've not known SharePoint to be unstable in any way. You should spend some
time on the Project home page to review the features you get by deploying
Project Server. The added value is significant: Visibility, analysis, rollup
to programs, etc.
