MSPS 2007 – SP1 - Question Regarding Changing Project Properties

T

Tim Mccoy

I’m in Project Center and am using the “Edit Project Properties†button.
When I click on the button I get the error, “Project Server cannot access the
project you are trying to view. It is most likely that either you don’t have
permissions to view the project, another user has deleted this project before
you were able to view it, or that another user is in the process of
publishing the project.â€

I have admin rights and made sure the “Edit Project Properties in Project
Center†option was enabled. The projects exist and are not open by another
user or being published.

This is happening for all projects.

Can somebody please advise a solution or workaround?

Thank you!

Is the project checked out? This can be verified in the server settings |
database administration option?

The project is not checked out. I have the problem with all projects.

I am trying to change the owner of the project. Maybe there is another way
to do this?

Any ideas?

Are you only a member of the Administrators group? If you are the Project
Server administrator, that is the only Group in which you need to be a
member. If you are a member of any other Groups, perhaps one of those
Groups has a Deny permission. If you are a member of any other Groups,
remove yourself from those Groups and let us know if that solves the
problem.

That was it Dale. It works now. Thank you for your help (again)!

I was a member of other groups including the Administrators group and now I
removed all the other groups. One of the other groups had the option as deny.

I'm glad to know this helped. Your problem is precisely why we recommend
that you rarely ever use the Deny permission. In many costs, using a Not
Allowed permission will accomplish the objective, and won't cause the kind
of problem you experienced. :)
