MSPS 2007 - Graphical Indicator Problem on Enterprise Custom Field

T

Tim Mccoy

My graphical indicators in a project plan are not reflecting the criterial I
setup for the Enterprise Custom field. Any suggestions to help me move
forward?

I created an Enterprise Custom field, it is a task field and the type is
duration. The formula is "[Finish Variance]", the calculation for summary
rows is use formula, the calculation for assignment rows is none, and I have
graphical indicators turned on.

My criteria for the graphical indicator is:
- Greater than or equal to 4 days - Red
- Greater than or equal to 2 days - Yellow
- Greater than or equal to 0 days - Green
- Less than 0 days - Green Smiley

The field is not required.

The graphical indicators are showing red in both the thick client and PWA
when the Finish Variance is 0 or greater. I would expect the stoplight color
to vary by the criteria.

I have published my plan using a few different methods and it has not fixed
the problem.

I have tried this exact same custom field in MSPS 2003 and it works okay
(unless I am missing a typo).

Once I resolve this problem, I will create another enterprise field similiar
to this one at the project level.

Can anybody help?

Thank you.

[Finish Variance], although displayed in Days in the thick client, is
actually stored in minutes. So a 1 day variance is stored as 480 minutes.
This might explain why all your indicators are showing red.

Let us know if this was the issue or not

Sorry, still a problem. Any more suggestions?

I tried entering the values for the custom indicators as minutes but when I
saved the change PWA converted the units back to days. Example: For my red
indicator I entered "1920m" (480 x 4 days) and when I saved the field and
went back in to view my changes, PWA changed the value to 4 days so this did
not work.

I then tried dividing the 4 days by 480 minutes (which is .0083333) to get
the days in a decimal format. However the value for the grapbical indicator
only stores 2 decimals and rounded it up to .10 so this did not work either.

Any other ideas?

Thank you.

I use the same [Finish Variance] calculation, however my problem is that the
graphical indicators only appear as numbers rather than graphics.

I've republished the projects, and I get the same results...

Any ideas?

Are you running SP1? I am not.

Did you check the box that says show tool tips? I did.

I wonder how solid Project 2007 handles graphical indicators vs. Project 2003.

I still have no idea what the problems are.

Yes, I'm running SP1, and the tool tips box is checked... I've tried
unchecking it as well, but no luck...

I tried the exact same formula and indicator criteria (I imported it) into a
local custom duration field in my plan. The results - it worked as expetted.

Is this situation a known bug?

I did some more testing. I created the custom duration field locally and all
works well. I then exported it to an enterprise field and it does not work
correctly.

Either I am not publishing "something" correctly, some of the field
definition was lost when I exported it to the enterprise, or there is a bug
in the product regarding enterprise duration fields and graphical indicators.

Any ideas? I can't beleive this doesn't work.

Well, if we are both having the same type of problem then this is a bug.
Thank you for trying!

I am sure Microsoft knows about this problem.

Hello Tim:
This is may 2007 and I am having lots of problems with the graphical
indicators in PWA.
Did you finally fix the problem? If so, can you share your experience?

I submitted the situation to MS Support but so far no luck.

Regards,
luis.-
