MSPS 2007 Infrastructure

What are the benefits of housing MSPS 2007 on enterprise versions of Windows
and SQL Server rather than standard?

Is it worth the 5K to buy a sharepoint server instead of using the free
services (3.0)

No advantages unless you are using the features supplied by these enterprise
additions. Same applies to MOSS vs WSS3.0. Project Server does not require
MOSS so you'd need to work out any additional business benefit acrued by the
use of MOSS before buying it.
