mswrd632.wpc errors

BobC

Over the last few days, we have been having some problems opening Word
docments. These documents have been created using Word Automation in Access
but the problem presents itself when opening the documents in Word.

A message indicating that mswrd632.wpc cannot be opened is displayed. This
message is repeated three times and then the doucment open OK.

The cause of this appears to be the application of MS Security Bulletin
MS09-073, release 8 December 2009. This has been proved as removing the patch
also removes the problem.

There is mention of a registry amendment to avoid the problem in the
Security Bulletin but we have had no success applying this change. The user
has reported that they cannot findd the key mentioned.

This is a Windows XP network using Office 2007. Documents are saved as Word
97-2003 format for compatability with other users who may not be able to
accept Word 2007 formats.

It appears that the security bulletiin is aimed at Wordpad documents.

Any ideas?

Also, how can I report this to Microsoft. There are people on the TV who
have been telling MS how to build Windows 7. Can you also tell them there is
a problem with what they have already sold you ;o)

Hi Terry -
It would be nice if the "fix" could be posted to the FAQs or perhaps any
mention at all of the mswrd632.wpc issue on the MS site would be appreciated.
I know you are just the messenger but this would you kick this upstairs for
us?

And what's the MS bug/problems phone number?

All update bugs (Windows, Office or whatever) have free bug support and you
find the number of your local MS call centre in Word Options.

I have the same problem with a older file from a colleague which I need to open urgently but with Office2007 only the error message "mswrd632 cannot be opened" appears. The workaround with the registry change has not helped me. Will MS help me with this problem also with free support?

I too have this issue on a WinXP / Word 2003 platform. I am trying to get this supposed "Free" help when it is a problem caused by their security automatic download. They don't seem to know that, they say my options are to pay them because they don't support either of these... any idea on how to remove this patch?

Are both XP and Word 2003 fully patched up to date now? Did you try the
registry edit?

We are getting the same error when running Word 2007 mailmerges automated
with VS. We are not using any Wordpad files, but still get the this error.

And if the WordPad applet is not there, add it and enable it (Set it's value
to 1)

That you are not using WordPad is irrelevant. It seems that the converter
settings are stored in the WordPad registry key. So you to edit the registry
as advised, adding the WordPad key if it isn't present.

Just save the file with extension DOCX and than open it with MS Word (Word wil convert and open it fine)

Resaving the file with extension docx and then opening it again seemed to do the trick. It was in funny type face, but readable at least.
