MSXML5.dll not a valid Windows image

Peggy

Not sure if I should ask here or in the WinXP group. My PC is running XP Pro
with Outlook 2003. Recently, when opening Outlook, I get error message:
The application or DLL C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\OFFICE11\MSXML5.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this
against your installation diskette.

Is this a file corruption? Can I copy the file from another PC also the same
o/s and Outlook version? If so, how do I do this? If not, any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

If I encountered this situation, I would probably do a repair install of
Office 2003 from Add/Remove Programs (Change, then Repair).

However, this may make you lose some upgrades; maybe copying from
another system with the same service pack level may be easier. I would
use a USB memory stick or floppy disk for that. (Use Windows Explorer to
copy the file to the transfer medium.) Check the date and version number
of MSXML5.DLL that it is the same (e.g. mine is version 5.20.1087.0
dated 2008-08-31).
