Multi select List box controls unbound check box

I'm trying to create a dynamic 'title' for a form based on what is showing.
After you select the 'departments' that you want to include (from the first
multi select list box) and then select the 'events' that you want to include
(from a second multi select list box) a bunch of subforms are filtered by
these selections.

The desired 'dynamic title' would have unbound checkboxes for each item
(both departments and events) and would be checked or unchecked based on the
selections from the listboxes.

Any Ideas? I'm open to other solutions for this. thanks.
