multipart messages failing to "join"

I have an outlook 2000 that isn't handling multipart messages sent by outlook express(you know, the option to break messages if size>XXXKB).

i have all the parts in the inbox(2 mails with 1/2 2/2 subject) with the ..DAT files inside, but they're not compiled, and remain unreadable.

Instead, outlook express compiles them perfectly.

is this a design problem or a known incompatibility?
