Multiple Copies of a Task in the PWA

Our project manger had to make some changes to a task and now there are
duplicates of it in the PWA.

In the Project Plan:
Task A has Work = 22

In the PWA:
Task A has Work = 22
Task A has Work = 2.8

I am not sure what she did to get this (I think she made resource changes),
but basically, she wants to get rid of the Task that has 2.8 hours so that it
doesnt show up in the PWA at all. She says it doesnt show up on the users
TimeSheet, but when the Team Lead has to adjust actuals, it shows up on the
Adjust Actuals timesheet. It doesnt show up in the Project Plan either, which
is good, but how do we get rid of it all together? Also, what caused this and
what can we do to avoid it again?

Thanks

Also: The neither of the duplicate tasks show up with the "X" deleted icon in
the adjust actuals time sheet.

Anyone? Bueller?

I had a problem with duplicate tasks also. For me, this happened when a
resource had assigned themselves to a task and not yet sent the update to the
Project Manager. The Project Manager assigned the resource to the task, so
once the resource submitted updates they were assigned to the same task
twice. My understanding is that SP2 prevents this from happening.

To remove the duplicate tasks, I used the stored procedures listed at the
end of a post to the Project Server newsgroup by Raja Annamalai in 2005. You
can find the post by searching for "0x800004005".

Thanks. Does anyone else have a solution that doesnt involve SQL code in the
back end? We are running SP2...so I wonder how this happened?

Did someone Publish a master plan. That is a Project with other Projects inserted into it?
If so that is the culprit and the Administration pages should be used to disallow this behavior.
I've also seen it with Master plans saved to a server but that was on a previously damaged system.

Nope. There is only one master plan with no other plans inserted. Again, this
duplicate task only shows up when you go to adjust actuals for the
resource(s) assigned to those tasks.
