multiple criteria for formulas

I am writing an excel program that refrences a wok sheet and i want to write
a countif A AND B type statement, how do i do this? ex: countif (cell
reference X = 1) and (cell reference Y = 2) is there any way i can do this?
Thanks! I've been trying to figure it out for months now!

=SUMPRODUCT(--(A2:A100=1),--(B2:B100=2))

I don't want to sum the products of the two criteria, i only want excel to
recognize it if the two criteria are met.

It doesn't sum it counts and since you mentioned COUNTIF it was quite
logical to assume you wanted to count, use the AND function
