Multiple Excel files in Windows taskbar

I'm using MS Windows XP Pro version 5.1.2600 SP2 and Excel 2002 SP3.

When I have more than one Excel file open, I used to be able to select the
file to view from the Windows taskbar on the bottom of my screen. I don't
know how or why it changed, but nothing but the Excel icon now appears in
this taskbar. I have to move my mouse to the Excel toolbar>Window at the top
of my screen in order to move from one file to the other.

Inexplicably, I still can see/select more than one MS Word document on the
Windows taskbar.

You have posted this to a Macintosh group. However, Look in
tools-options-view and check "Windows in Task bar".
