Multiple Expanded Timelines

I am trying to create a fairly complex timeline in Visio with a master
timeline and multiple expanded timelines above and below it. When I move one
of the expanded timelines, it changes it connection from the master to
another expanded timeline that is closer. I cannot figure out how to stop
that from happening. I need about six expanded timelines that all tie only
to the master timeline. Help!

Hello Steve,

I think this is by design and as you move the Expanded Timeline, whether
with mouse or keys, the shape 'reparents' itself.

A 'Lock to parent' option might be a useful option, but it's not available
out of the box.

To be honest, I can't really think of a stable way around this issue. You
could temporarily remove the solution guid (User.solsh) which prevents the
TimeLine addon from seeing the timeline shape as one of its own, and so stop
the reparenting. User.solsh could be an if statement that would show the
guid (or not) based on some other page level variable. I'm not promoting
this as a workable solution by the way as you'd need to make sure that you
returned the guid to the correct state after each move to ensure that the
shape took part in the rest of the timeline (addon) activities.

I think the simplest answer is to try and arrange the timeline on a larger
page and then bring them all together when you're done.

Hope that's informative (if not very useful).

Happy New Year.

Best regards

John
